As a Digital Accessibility Specialist, you will support TELUS' brand reputation as a leader in accessibility by helping to ensure that we build and maintain accessible and inclusive customer experiences. You will improve TELUS' overall accessibility posture through evolving our culture, processes and tools. You will be an ambassador to drive accessibility awareness and fluency for TELUS product owners, delivery teams and stakeholders.
*Here's how...*
You will provide technical leadership, expert guidance, coordination and support to agile digital teams with a focus on promoting, assessing and maintaining inclusive design and web accessibility principles and techniques in TELUS' digital products. You will be responsible for the following:
* Supporting our Digital Review Board to re-enforce digital accessibility standards across TELUS
* Leading accessibility best-practice evaluation for potential 3rd-party partners
* Exhausting our opportunity to automate accessibility in our software delivery pipeline
* Accessibility evaluation for web and mobile applications at the concept stage
* Digital accessibility technical guidance and coaching for designers and developers
* Supporting and guiding team members responsible for accessibility testing, remediation and monitoring
* Evolving TELUS' digital accessibility guidelines, best practices and standards, driving towards automation where possible
* Creating and maintaining dashboards and reporting to showcase accessibility maturity
*You're the missing piece of the puzzle...*
* 3-5 years' practical digital accessibility experience
* Expert level understanding of Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0 and assistive technologies
* Confidence with interpreting WCAG 2.0 requirements for a variety of stakeholders
* Solid awareness of digital accessibility barriers beyond WCAG 2.0
* Affinity for exhausting all opportunities to automate repetitive accessibility tasks
* Ability to demonstrate how digital accessibility improves usability for everyone
* Thorough understanding of best practices for optimizing accessibility for mobile device users
* Strong understanding of usability and user interface design, development and testing principles and techniques
* Strong relationship building skills centred around being the 'coach' vs the 'cop' for a variety of technical and non-technical stakeholders
* Familiarity with provincial & federal accessibility requirements (e.g., Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act/Canadian Radio-television & Telecommunications Commission policy)
